Framework Programme 7 & Participation of African Researchers

European research activities are structured around consecutive multi-annual programmes, or so-called Framework Programmes. FP7 covered the period 2007-2013. FP7-ICT is fully open to international co-operation with the aim to join forces for addressing major challenges where significant added value is expected to be gained from worldwide R&D cooperation.

IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshop, Mauritius, November 2012

The National Computer Board hosted a IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshop in Mauritius on 15 November 2012. This workshop focused on FP7-ICT Call 10 - 11 Call for Proposals.

IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshops, November 2011

IST-Africa Training Workshops were hosted by the National Commission for Science and Technology (Malawi) in Lilongwe on 17 - 18 November, Ministry of Communications and Transport (Zambia) in Lusaka on 21 - 22 November, Ministry of Science and Technology (Ethiopia) in Addis Ababa on 24 November and Ministry of ICT (Swaziland) in Mbabane on 28 - 29 November 2011 in cooperation with IIMC. These workshops focused on FP7-ICT-Call 8 - 9 Calls for Proposals, provided an Introduction to Living Labs and continued the public consultation in relation to the Living Labs White Paper by identifying national priorities.

IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshops in Cameroon and Kenya during March 2011

IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshops were hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology (Kenya) in Nairobi on 18 March 2011 and the Agence Nationale des Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication (Cameroon) in Yaounde on 21 March 2011 in cooperation with IIMC. These workshops focused on FP7-ICT-Call 8 - 9 Calls for Proposals.

Cooperation Opportunities with South Africa in ICT/FP7 Workshop, Brussels, 11 Feb '09

DG Information Society and Media in cooperation the Department of Science and Technology of South-Africa, organised a workshop on 11 February (09:30-13:00) at DG INFSO premises (Brussels, 33 Avenue de Beaulieu, room 0/54) on cooperation opportunities with South-Africa in ICT/FP7, with a specific focus on the Call 4 targeted objectives.

On this occasion, South African ICT research priorities and specific competencies related to those objectives were be notably presented. This workshop was organised in the context of the EU-South Africa Strategic Partnership, which identifies both S&T and ICT as key sectors of cooperation, with the support of the ESASTAP project, IST-Africa Initiative and EuroAfrica-ICT project.

ACP-ICT Call Workshop, Lesotho, 20 August 2008

The Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology Lesotho organised a workshop in relation to the ACP-ICT Call in Maseru to inform stakeholders and identify opportunities for participation. The IST-Africa Consortium facilitated the participation of the Parliament of Namibia, with other African governments and European partners to participate in a proposal submitted under this Call.

FP7 Financial Guidelines Training Workshop, 15 - 17 July 2008

The Department of Science and Technology South Africa organised a FP7 Financial Guidelines Training Workshop in association with ESASTAP and IST-Africa in Johannesburg on 15 - 17 July '08.

The workshop took place in the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre, 120 North Rand Road, Bartlett, Boksburg, Johannesburg.

FP7 Training Workshops, November - December 2007

IST-Africa organised a series of FP7 Training Workshops in Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda during late November and December 2007 in relation to Call 3 of FP7-ICT (FP7-ICT-2007-3), which closed in March/April 2008. The goal of the IST-Africa FP7 Training Workshops is to inform researchers in Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda about FP7-ICT and the opportunities open to participation, qualify organisations with the necessary track record and capacity to participate in FP7-ICT, and promote such organisations to potential European partners.

These workshops were organised by national IST-Africa Partners, with training provided by IIMC (IST-Africa Coordinator). IIMC has successfully participated in European funded research in FP4, FP5, FP6 and FP7. Members of IIMC's team also have considerable experience working as experts in evaluations and reviews for a wide variety of units funding research within the European Commission (DG Information Society & Media and DG Research). The IST-Africa FP7 Workshop in Nairobi is being organised and hosted by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Kenya.
