GMES & Africa Workshop on Marine and Coastal Areas, 9-10 October 2012, Mombasa, Kenya

The BRAGMA FP7 project is organising a number of thematic workshops during 2012 and 2013, which will contribute to finalisation of the GMES & Africa Action Plan by faciliating an active and open consultation process with African Member States, African Union Commission, European Commission and other key stakeholders.

A two-day invitation only Marine and Coastal Areas Workshop for thematic experts will take place in Mombasa, Kenya on 09 and 10 October 2012. Invited experts will include national representatives responsible for marine and coastal activities in each African country with a sea coast, and representatives of the African Union Commission, European Commission, Regional Economic Communities, GOOS-Africa (Global Ocean Observing System), UNESCO and Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI - the AMESD. Regional Implementation Centre for South West Indian Ocean region), Other invited African and European stakeholders include thematic experts from relevant FP7 projects including BRAGMA and EAMNet.

The BRAGMA Marine and Coastal Areas Workshop is expected to contribute to the GMES & Africa Action Plan through consultation with African Member States. It addresses the Space component of the 8th Africa-EU Strategic Partnership.

This workshop is co-organised by IICT, Portugal; Department of Science and Technology, South Africa; and Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology (MoHEST), Kenya. It is co-financed by the European Commission under FP7 and under the 10th EDF to contribute to the implementation of the JAES Action Plans (AP) through the JAES Support Mechanism (JAES SM).
