About Nairobi

Nairobi is the vibrant capital city of Kenya. Named after the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi, meaning 'place of cool waters', it is affectionately known as The Green City under the Sun due to its lush greenery and lively atmosphere. As the most populous city in East Africa with an estimated population of 3.5 million, Nairobi is the 14th largest city on the continent.

Remarkably, Nairobi is the only metropolis in the world with a National Park within its bounds. Established in 1946, Nairobi National Park is a sanctuary that showcases the city's dedication to preserving its urban and natural heritage, housing diverse wildlife including Africa's highest concentration of black rhinos. Located in south-central Kenya, 140 kilometers south of the Equator, Nairobi is surrounded by 113 square kilometers of plains, cliffs, and forests, with the Ngong Hills to the west, Mount Kenya to the north, and Mount Kilimanjaro to the southeast.

Other major tourist destinations to visit while in Nairobi include the National Museums of Kenya , the Giraffe Center and the Nairobi Arboretum among others.
