IST-Africa 2019 Conference

Nairobi, Kenya, 08 - 10 May 2019


The IST-Africa 2019 Conference will take place in Laico Regency Hotel, Loita Street, Nairobi, which is located in the city centre.

All conference delegates need to be registered and confirmed prior to the Conference.

It is necessary for all confirmed delegates to complete onsite registration to receive your name badge and conference pack. It is necessary for delegates to wear their IST-Africa 2019 name badge at all times during the conference as identification to gain access to the Conference Sessions and Lunch.

Onsite Registration will commence from 17:00 - 19:00 on Tuesday 07 May in the conference centre at Laico Regency Nairobi. Onsite registration will remain open during normal conference hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Transportation from Airport

The airport is situated between 45 - 60 minutes drive from the city centre, depending on traffic. An official taxi from the airport to city centre costs in the region of 2,000 KES each way.


Conference delegates travelling to Africa for the first time are recommended to have up to date Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines.

It is necessary to have proof of Yellow Fever vaccine (Yellow Book). It is advisable to get this vaccine several weeks prior to travel.

It is a good idea to check with your personal physician or travel health clinic four to six weeks prior to travelling, outlining where in Kenya you intend to visit.

Delegates travelling from Southern African countries to and from Kenya may be requested to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccine when checking in for flights and upon arrival.

Security, Health and Safety

Please wear your name badge for all IST-Africa 2019 activities, as it is your identification and allows you access to the facilities on offer. While the conference centre will not open to the general public, it is still necessary to take care of bags, personal computers and other personal belongings.

The organisers cannot accept any responsibility for losses incurred or for personal health and safety.

Delegates should ensure that they have personal health insurance and take due care when exploring the city of Nairobi. Any special needs or requirements should be notified to the Conference Secretariat as far in advance of the event as possible.


Nairobi is the capital of Kenya. The conference venue is located in the city centre. While in Nairobi, delegates should visit the National Museum, National Park, Bomas of Kenya and the City Market. Given that Nairobi is a large and busy city, delegates should take care when walking around the city centre.


Nairobi has a moderate climate average temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius. It is cooler in the evening. Rains are possible during May and delegates should bring rain wear.


The currency in Kenya is Kenyan Shilling (KES). The exchange rate is quite changeable but is approximately 1 EUR = 118 Kenyan Shilling.

It is necessary to pay for most services in restaurants and shops in US dollars or Kenyan Shilling.

All crafts vendors and smaller shops will expect to be paid in local currency.

It is a good idea to have some local currency in small denomination notes if you wish to buy crafts and pay for taxis. It is necessary to negotiate prices.
