Venue

The IST-Africa 2013 Conference and Exhibition takes place at the Safari Park Hotel, on Thika Road, which is 25 minutes by car from Nairobi City Centre and 40 - 60 minutes by car from the Airport, depending on traffic.

All conference delegates must be registered and confirmed prior to the Conference.

Onsite Registration will commence from 16:00 - 18:30 on Tuesday 28 May in the Jambo Conference Centre. Onsite registration will remain open during normal conference hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

All confirmed delegates must collect their name badge and conference pack. The IST-Africa 2013 Name Badge should be worn at all times as identification to gain access to the Conference Sessions, Exhibition and Lunch.

Vaccinations

It is necessary to have proof of Yellow Fever vaccine (Yellow Book). It is advisable to get this vaccine several weeks prior to travel.

Conference delegates travelling to Africa for the first time are recommended to have up to date Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines.

Please engage with your personal physician or travel health clinic four to six weeks prior to travelling, outlining where in Kenya you intend to visit.

Security, Health and Safety

Please wear your name badge for all IST-Africa 2013 activities, as it is your identification and allows you access to the facilities on offer. While the conference centre will not open to the general public, it is still necessary to take care of bags, personal computers and other personal belongings.

While the conference venue is on a closed compound, the organisers cannot accept any responsibility for losses incurred or for personal health and safety.

Delegates should ensure that they have personal health insurance. Any special needs or requirements should be notified to the Conference Secretariat in advance.

Sightseeing and Climate

While in Nairobi, delegates should visit the National Museum, National Park, Bomas of Kenya and the City Market. Given that Nairobi is a large and busy city, delegates should take due care when walking around the City Centre.

Nairobi has a moderate climate during May with average temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius during the day. Rains are possible during May and delegates should bring rain wear.

Currency

The currency in Kenya is Kenyan Shilling (KES). The exchange rate is quite changeable but is approximately 1 EUR = 118 Kenyan Shilling.

It is necessary to pay for most services in restaurants and shops in US dollars or Kenyan Shilling.

All crafts vendors and smaller shops will expect to be paid in local currency.

It is a good idea to have some local currency in small denomination notes if you wish to buy crafts and pay for taxis. It is necessary to negotiate prices.
