Delegates would provide their arrival details in advance will be met at the airport and brought to their Conference Hotel. The mini-buses will leave once each bus is full so as not to delay the whole group while other delegates are waiting for single entry border visas to be processed.

Delegates are responsible for covering the cost of their return journey to the airport. A taxi will cost approximately $14 per person, based on a minimum of two people. If you wish to book transportation back to the airport in advance, please contact the Conference Secretariat at the Registration Desk during the Conference.

Transportation to and from Conference Hotels and Conference Centre

The IST-Africa 2007 Organising Committee are arranging shuttles to and from the three Conference Hotels (Holiday Inn, Polana Serena Hotel and Hotel Cardoso) each morning and evening during the Conference. The first shuttle will leave at 07:45 on Wednesday morning.

If you are staying in one of the Conference Hotels but booked the hotel directly (i.e., not through online registration) and wish to avail of these shuttles it is necessary to let the Conference Secretariat know by Friday 27 April which hotel you are staying in so you are included on the list of delegates for the shuttle.

Taxis within Maputo

We strongly recommend that delegates do not walk around the city at night. Taxis are available at all hotels. A normal fare within Maputo is 100 - 200 MZN (€3 - €6), depending on the distance. It is a good idea to ask the concierge to agree the pricing of the trip with the taxi driver before leaving the hotel and if you require a pick up to return to the hotel.

Driving in Mozambique

In Mozambique, all vehicles drive on the left hand side of the road as in the majority of the Southern Africa countries. It is compulsory to carry your driver license and the vehicle documentation. Please ensure that your driver license is recognised in Mozambique or apply for an International Drivers License in sufficient time prior to travelling.

A temporary import permit and third party insurance is required if you wish to bring your vehicle into Mozambique. It is compulsory to carry a warning triangle in every vehicle.

Speed limits in villages is 50kms/hr unless otherwise indicated. Speed traps are in operation and it is recommended to stick to the speed limit at all times.

Traffic lights in towns are located on your left hand side corner of the street and there is normally only one per intersection.

Directions from South Africa/Swaziland

Maputo can be reached from South Africa via the Komatipoort/ Ressano Garcia border (120 km from Maputo), or from Swaziland by crossing the Namaacha border (80 km from Maputo).
