IST-Africa 2006 Conference & Exhibition

03 - 05 May 2006, CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa

The IST-Africa 2006 Conference and Exhibition will take place in the CSIR International Convention Centre Pretoria, South Africa.

Security, Health and Safety

Please wear your name badge for all IST-Africa 2006 activities, as it is your identification and allows you access to the facilities on offer. Unfortunately, IT Conferences provide a tempting target for thieves, so please take care of bags, laptops and other personal belongings.

While security staff will be present, the organisers cannot accept any responsibility for losses incurred or for personal health and safety. Delegates should ensure they have personal health insurance and take the usual care when exploring the city of Pretoria. If you have any special needs or requirements, please contact the conference secretariat prior to the event.

Pretoria/City of Tshwane is the administrative capital of South Africa and lies approximately 50km north of Johannesburg. As the academic, scientific and technological capital of South Africa, the city has the most highly developed technology and research sector in Africa. Although largely a government based city, it is also a place of culture, with theatres, museums and monuments.

While in Pretoria, delegates and accompanying persons should ensure they visit the famous Union Buildings, the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House or the Solomon Mahlangu Square in Mamelodi. The Pretoria Zoo is one of the country's finest and the Botanical Gardens provide a fascinating introduction to hundreds of South Africa's indigenous trees.

Average temperatures in Pretoria in May are temperate, ranging from 10 to 21.5 degrees Celsius. For those taking advantage of Post-Conference social activities, average temperatures in Johannesburg in May are 8 - 19 degrees Celsius, while in Cape Town average temperatures range from 10 to 20 degrees.
