IST-Africa presents ICT related Research Cooperation Opportunities with Africa under H2020 during FinCEAL International Cooperation Workshop in Helsinki, 11 March 2014

FinCEAL (Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation with Europe, Africa and the LAC Region) and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland are co-organizing a workshop on ICT for Societal Challenges and Information Society in Helsinki on 11th March 2014.

Hosted at VTT Valimo, Metallimiehenkuja 2, Espoo, this workshop is targeted at researchers and companies working with ICT-related solutions addressing societal challenges with a special interest either in Africa or the Latin America and Caribbean region.

The workshop will be formally opened by Pekka Lindroos, Commercial Counsellor, Ministry of Employment and Economy, Aki Enkenberg, Senior Adviser, Information Society and STI for Development at Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tiina Vihma-Purovaara, Chancellor of Education, Ministry of Education and Culture.

IST-Africa is presenting opportunities for ICT research and innovation cooperation under H2020 between the EU and Africa during the Expert Presentations session at 13:15.

This session will be followed by networking groups focused on different ICT related thematic areas and group brainstorming on opportunities for the Finnish research community to contribute to ICT cooperation with Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

FinCEAL is an initiative by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture focused on providing support for Finnish researchers focusing on Africa and the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. UniPID (Finnish University Partnership for International Development) is mandated by the Ministry to coordinate the project from 2013 - 2014. The project supports the Finnish research and science community working with Africa and the LAC region to network through enhanced communication, and aims to increase the participation of Finnish experts in this important bi-regional processes. FinCEAL focuses especially on supporting thematic research for Africa in the areas of Food Security, Health, Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Information Society and in LAC - ICT for Societal Challenges, Bioeconomy, Biodiversity and Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Health.
