WSIS+10 and Beyond Regional Consultation Meeting, 14-15 April, Addis Ababa

The WSIS+10 Vision for WSIS Beyond 2015 and WSIS+10 Statement on Implementation of WSIS Outcomes were endorsed in June 2014. These documents reinforce the importance of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and highlight the importance of ICT to address 21st century development challenges as cross-cutting enablers to achieve sustainable development.

A ten-year review of WSIS outcomes has been undertaken as input to the post-2015 WSIS agenda. UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has been undertaking the final evaluation of the WSIS+10 review process with stakeholders as part of a global assessment that has been underway in the context of the Partnership for Measuring ICTs for Development.

The report on WSIS+10 for Africa will highlight the WSIS implementation progress made in Member States, identify challenges in implementing the WSIS action lines including the opportunities for value creation that lie ahead, and propose strategies for the WSIS beyond 2015.

This report will be presented at the Regional Consultation Meeting on the WSIS+10 and Beyond to be held at UNECA from 14 to 16 April 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, together with a series of country review presentations for final consolidation of lessons learned during the past decade.

This meeting aims to report on achievements and gaps against the WSIS action lines identified and issues, challenges and lessons from ten years of WSIS implementation examined, and policy and strategic actions for recommendations identified; Key priority areas for post-2015 information society agenda in the African context and encourage stakeholder participation in the review of WSIS implementation and post-2015 agenda.
