Malawi Parliament to Construct 193 Information Centres

According to the Malawi News Agency (MANA), the Malawi National Assembly will construct 193 Parliament Information Centres (PICs) across the country as a mechanism to ensure information is available at constituency level.

During a briefing meeting, Mr Joseph Njobvuyalema, Chairman of the PIC Task Force indicated that the National Assembly intends to decentralize information sharing systems with citizens at constituency level as part of its 2010 - 2015 Strategic Plan. It is envisaged that the Parliament Information Centres will have a Library containing documents such as the Hansard, a conference room and a formal office for the sitting Member of Parliament.

"As a taskforce, we plan to complete the construction of the PICs before the 2014 Tripartite Elections in all 193 constituencies. We will push for funding for the project when parliament meets in February so that we agree on whether to increase Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which we intend to use for construction or lobby for donors to meet the deficit," said Mr Njobvuyalema.
