The IST-Africa 2012 Conference Proceedings brings together a comprehensive collection of over 105 contributions on industrial, government or societal exploitation of applied ICT, representing cutting edge research and practical eAdoption from Africa and Europe. These contributions can be used to benchmark regional and national developments and identify potential partners and exploitation opportunities. The continued emphasis on close cooperation and collaboration between end users and commercial and academic researchers, particularly between Africa and Europe, is very welcome, and augurs well for the continued development of the European Research Area (ERA) under FP7 and Horizon 2020.

Reflecting the breadth and depth of the ICT related research undertaken by the contributors, the contents are broken down into thirteen broad thematic areas. These are: eHealth; eInfrastructures; Living Labs; Technology Enhanced Learning & ICT Skills; Digital Libraries; Technology Transfer; ICT for eInclusion & eAccessibility; ICT for Environmental Risk Management; RFID & Networked Enterprise; Cloud Computing; e-Government; Mobile Applications and Cyber Security.

All papers included in the IST-Africa 2012 Conference Proceedings have been double blind peer reviewed by the International Programme Committee.
